Branch Art Exhibit: Interventions in Our Landscape by Karen Sekikawa and Stephanie Calvet

Throughout the month of September, Interventions in our Landscape by artists Karen Sekikawa and Stephanie Calvet is on display at North York Central Library branch. Karen Sekikawa and Stephanie Calvet work at the intersection of architecture, photography, and design. Trained as architects and based in Toronto, they share a deep appreciation for culture and the built environment, often exploring neighbourhoods both locally and abroad. Their individual creative practices enrich their photography-Karen draws on her Japanese heritage through ikebana (flower arrangement), while Stephanie reconnects with design through urban sketching in pen and ink. Karen Sekikawa and Stephanie Calvet draw inspiration from architecture, street life, and built elements within the landscape. Their architectural background is reflected in their photography, which emphasizes form, texture, pattern, light and shadow. Their approach leans toward graphic compositions, often highlighting abstracted details or framing new perspectives. They aim to provoke curiosity, encouraging viewers to pause, reflect and appreciate the unique and see the familiar in a new light. This exhibit is part of TPL's Art Exhibits Space program. Toronto Public Library provides space for local artists to exhibit their work at locations across the city. These exhibits aim to reflect the diverse cultural interests of the city and its neighbourhoods. The exhibit can be viewed during North York Central Library open hours. Free. All are welcome.
