Branch Art Exhibit: Works by Shipra Vyas

Throughout the month of September, the works of artist Shipra Vyas are on display at Albion branch. Shipra Vyas is a Toronto-based artist whose work explores memory, place, and the everyday moments that shape identity. Working primarily in pencil and pastel, she builds layered, textured drawings that carry a reflective atmospheric quality. Her practice is informed by family life, travel, her Indo Canadian roots, and literary influences, drawing on these to create intimate studies of connection, transition, and belonging. Her work can also be found on Instagram at @littlesketchdiary. "This series of drawings is inspired by Caitlin Vernon's debut poetry collection Hold On Until I Can Love You. Beginning with the book cover & illustrations, the project grew into a larger body of work exploring themes of early relationships, identity, and place. Created with pencil and pastel, the pieces draw on Glasgow and Toronto, using soft textures and layered greens to evoke a hazy, memory-like atmosphere that reflects and extends the poetry, while also inviting viewers into a shared space." This exhibit is part of TPL's Art Exhibit Space program. Toronto Public Library provides space for local artists to exhibit their work at locations across the city. These exhibits aim to reflect the diverse cultural interests of the city and its neighbourhoods. The exhibit can be viewed during Albion branch's open hours.
