The Pannonica Jazz Orchestra is a multi-generational collection of Canada's finest Jazz musicians.The all-female ensemble, led by Trombonist/Arranger Angela Pincente, features compositions primarily composed and arranged by women specifically for this ensemble. The PJO's mission is to highlight the contributions of women in music and provide a space to showcase their artistry. This ensemble is named in honour of Pannonica de Koenigswarter, a photographer and writer who was a patron to many jazz musicians in New York City. She became known as the "Jazz Baroness" and would go by the nickname "Nica", which is found in the names of countless compositions by those who she helped. The Pannonica Jazz Orchestra will be making its debut at The Rex Hotel on Saturday September 5th at 8:00pm.
